Women's Circle: Ancient feminine wisdom embodiment
Bone Deep Women's Circles is a series of seasonal gatherings where women embody ancient feminine wisdom through the Celtic wheel of the year. For each direction of the wheel, we’ll explore and embody the energy of a specific mythic figure - goddesses, legendary beings, and archetypal stories that hold keys to our authentic power.
As we we enter the South this summer, we journey with the Irish Goddess Áine. Over six Wednesday evenings, we'll explore her many faces: the sovereign land herself, the radiant sun, the wild red mare, and the embodied wisdom of cycles and seasons.
“I enjoyed the connection and cameraderie at the Morrighan Circle. The ritual element and weekly theme provided by Ruth. The safe space and trust created to do deep personal work. I felt safe and held and it was wonderful to sit in circle with fellow wise women who are not afraid of deep soul work. I liked the connection to Celtic roots as I have studied shamanism and explored other paths, that often defer to myths and spirituality that are not from my native lands - so this felt grounded, personal and real”

Áine (pronounced "AWN-ya") is the powerful Irish goddess of summer, sovereignty, and the land itself. Her name means "radiance" or "brightness," and she IS the sacred territory - the hills, lakes, and fertile fields of Ireland bear her name and hold her presence.
The Land Made Flesh: Áine is not just connected to the land - she IS the land. Cnoc Áine (Knockainey Hill) in County Limerick is named for her and contains her essence. She emerges from Lough Gur to comb her golden hair at Midsummer. When she won her territory through fierce determination, it was named for her sovereignty. She doesn't just bless the harvest - she sits in her birthing chair at Lughnasadh and literally gives birth to a sheaf of grain.
The Red Mare's Freedom: Áine can shapeshift into 'Lair Derg' - the red mare that no one can outrun. This is embodied, sensual, untamed vitality. Not power as something you forge or fight for, but power as your very aliveness - wild, free, and unstoppable.
Guardian of Sacred Territory: When King Ailill Aulom violated her, Áine bit off his ear. In Old Irish law, a king needed a perfect body to rule - her fierce act of boundary protection stripped him of sovereignty. She teaches us that our bodies are sacred land, and we have every right to defend them.
Goddess of Sun and Moon: Áine governs both the radiant sun (outer vitality, peak energy) and the moon (inner cycles, hidden wisdom). She bridges the visible and invisible, the doing and being, the outward radiance and inward knowing.
Faery Queen and Earth Mother: In folklore, Áine is both the Queen of the Sidhe and goddess of the earth itself. She brings blessings as she travels the land in her red mare form. Women brought their sick to her sacred lake on the full moon, and she would either heal them or sing them gently to the Otherworld. She is fierce love embodied.
Why Women need this Embodied Wisdom now
Everywhere, women are waking up to the truth that we ARE nature - that our bodies hold the earth's own wisdom, that our cycles mirror the moon and seasons, that our very aliveness is sacred. Yet so many of us are exhausted, disconnected, treating our bodies as tools to be used rather than sacred land to be honoured because of the society we live in.
We've been taught that our worth comes from what we produce, create, achieve. We've been told our bodies are problems to be fixed, our cycles inconveniences to override, our need for rest a weakness. We push through pain, ignore our body's signals, and wonder why we feel depleted and disconnected from our power.
Meanwhile, we're aching to come home to ourselves - to feel safe and alive in our own skin, to trust our body's wisdom, to experience our natural radiance without shame or apology.
Áine calls to us now because summer marks our entry into the South of the Celtic wheel; the season of embodiment, full vitality, and recognising ourselves as the living land
At Beltane and Midsummer, her sacred times, the fires of peak life burn bright. The land is full of abundance, and Áine invites us to remember: your body at its peak radiance is not "too much" - it is exactly right.
The South can challenge us to stop treating our bodies as separate from nature and remember we ARE the earth. Áine helps us understand that our cycles are not inconveniences but wisdom keepers, that our bodies are not tools but sacred territory, that our radiance is our birthright.
The world needs women who remember they are the living land.

About Ruth, your Space Holder
I am a holsitic healer, Celtic wisdom keeper, and space holder who guides women back to their authentic power through ancient practices and embodiment. My approach is deeply informed by my own journey of healing from trauma, chronic pain, and ancestral wounds through connection to my Celtic heritage.
I weave together sound therapy, somatic practices, and seasonal wisdom to create sacred spaces where women can reconnect with their fierce, loving, authentic selves. My work honours both the light and shadow aspects of feminine power, creating permission for women to be fully themselves without apology.
