Crystal Singing Bowls: From Silicon Valley Tech to Healing Sounds

This blog takes a look at the remarkable journey of crystal singing bowls, from overlooked by-products of Silicon Valley's tech industry to cherished instruments of healing and meditation.

The Unexpected Birth of Crystal Singing Bowls

Once upon a time, in the hum of Silicon Valley, an unexpected discovery was made. Between circuit boards and silicon chips, crystal singing bowls came to life. Yes, you heard that right, the healing instruments that now sit in my sound therapy room were born out of the tech industry.

As the story goes,  quartz crystal was used in the production of computer chips. If some quartz didn't meet the exacting standards of the industry, it was destined for the trash. But one day, on the way to the bin, someone discovered the potential of this quartz. This crystal waste was skilfully crafted into bowls that produced pure, enchanting sounds. It was a discovery that opened a new pathway for healing. These bowls weren't trash, they were treasures!

First Contact: My Personal Encounter with the Bowls

Crystal singing bowls at a sound bath delivered by two sound therapists

The first time I played my bowls, something astounding happened.

The logical, chattering left side of my brain simply... vanished.

A connection sparked within me, a link to ancient wisdom, resonating through the crystalline structure of my bowls.

This wisdom compelled me to chant in a voice that was both familiar and mysterious, a voice from a timeless place; an omnipresent truth.

There was no thinking, just being. An ancient truth, housed in a vessel born of modern technology. A paradox, isn't it?

How Crystal Singing Bowls Aid Healing and Trauma Release

Quartz crystal is what crystal singing bowls are made from

When the bowls arrived, life had thrown a curveball.

A fellow sound practitioner had been knocked off his bike on the same day we were due to deliver a sound bath. His ribs were damaged and his mobility was compromised.

The bowls, fresh out of their package, were called to duty. Three crystal singing bowl sound therapy sessions later, his recovery was progressing at an astonishing pace.

Could it be that the crystal bowls have a unique resonance with our skeletal system, aiding in healing? I can't help but wonder.

The power of the bowls, however, extends beyond physical healing. Working with my clients, I've witnessed trapped trauma surfacing and flowing out through the vibrations of the bowls.

The sound waves move through the body, seeking out the hidden knots of emotional pain and gently unwinding them, until they are expelled from the body.

Many clients have experienced big releases, followed by a new connection with themselves. A kindness, a compassion that wasn’t there before. The bowls have become an integral part of their healing journeys, a reliable companion in navigating life’s ups and downs.

B Minor Pentatonic: A Soul Connection

And the scale of my bowls? B Minor Pentatonic. My favourite scale. B is also my soul note - the note that I naturally gravitate towards when I sing. This connection to my bowls has deepened our bond, enabling me to support my clients with my intuition.

A Surprising Journey from Tech to Spirituality

So here we are, at the crossroads of technology and spirituality. A journey from Silicon Valley to the soothing hum of a sound bath. From computer chips to healing chants. Who would have thought that the world of 1s and 0s could give rise to a tool that touches the very core of our humanity?

Sometimes, after I have played my crystal singing bowls, I reflect on this surprising journey. I think about the person who discovered their potential in the rubbish. I marvel at the unlikely connection between the cold precision of technology and the warm hum of healing.
